Lesson learned (again)

In today’s news: a review of two computer stores.
Atic
Atic licks. Never buy anything from them. Their service is awful and even though I was the only customer in the store, they made me wait almost 20 minutes. One of their sleazy salesmen offered me his lap to sit on while I waited! Don’t buy from them!
Even when they have the lowest price, as they did on the Viewsonic 2245 monitor I wanted. It worked for about 20 minutes and then died! Which isn’t Atic’s fault, granted, but they do not accept any returns or exchanges, so I had to call Viewsonic directly.
Viewsonic has an authorized repair place in East Vancouver, where I now have to take the monitor in the hopes they can fix it. If not, Viewsonic will ship me a new one, which could take forever – if they even still have that model. Gah. Next time, I’ll buy from a place that actually provides some form of customer service, like …
Slaco
I hadn’t heard of Slaco before I saw their 2-page ad in The Hub magazine and their prices were quite competitive. I emailed for a quote on a custom-built system and got a reply a few minutes later, even though it was almost midnight! The service was outstanding and left me wondering whether the sales guy I dealt with (Andrew) had any sort of life at all! He replied to my inquiries at all hours and helped me build the system I wanted, the way I wanted it. There was a delay in shipping for the motherboard I had special-ordered, which he quickly called to tell me about.
Great personal service, and extremely helpful when I picked up the system.
The only downside: their store is quite far out in Surrey.
