A good start to the spring … or almost summer!

There are lots of exciting things happening in Edinburgh nowadays!
On the home front, we’ve been doing a tonne of spring cleaning since our landlady wants to show the flat to potential tenants this weekend. She specified that she wants it to look “tidy” and “the same as when you moved in” … which means we’ve been shoving lots of things into closets and into the creatively named box room. I don’t think she’ll have any trouble renting out the flat for September, considering the flat right below us is currently renting for almost twice what we’re paying.
On the political front, the Scottish Parliamentary elections and the Scottish city councils elections are happening today. The latter are being run using the single transferable vote system, which BC tried to implement in a failed referendum not too long ago. Unfortunately we don’t get to vote, but it’s been fun seeing all the hoopla around town and the results promise to be interesting. At least one of the parties has promised that if elected, they will push for Scotland’s complete secession from the UK!
On Saturday we are off to see some gardens since it is Edinburgh Parks and Gardens Open Day. Ian’s very excited to be able to see some of the private gardens which are normally closed. I’m quite excited for the photo opportunities since I’m participating in 24 Hours of Flickr that day.
On Sunday we’ll be going to the Taste of Scotland Showcase, a tasting event featuring 80 local producers. It should be like our weekly Farmers’ Market, only a bit bigger and a little cheaper, if not altogether free!
On Monday Jeff arrives and I am very excited. It feels like I’ve missed out on lots happening back home with my law school friends so it’ll be great to catch up. Plus Jeff is always up for random things, so we’ll be subjecting him to some haggis tasting, washed down with some whiskey, and possibly a deep fried Mars bar or two. I’m looking forward to climbing up Arthur’s Seat which I haven’t yet done, and also visiting the Castle again and playing tourist for a couple of days.
Later next week the 3 of us will jet off to Barcelona and then Sardinia. Can’t wait!
