Sprrrring!

Where better to enjoy a sunny day than the Royal Botanic Garden? We wandered over for a visit yesterday afternoon. Admission is free, but they’re sneaky and they plant an ice cream truck right by the entrance!
Once you’re in, the colour explosion is pretty intense:
Apparently the Botanics was founded in 1670 but has only been at its current location since 1820. There are lots of old, dignified trees and huge bushes and hedges:
… and also some newer sections with plants from more exotic ecosystems.
There are water features:
And plants with funny names:
There’s a bit of wildlife too:
Admission to the glasshouses costs £3.50 per adult, but next Saturday May 5 it is free all day, so we’ll be going back then to check them out.
Next time, we’ll take one of the two daily tours, and we’ll try to bring a plant guide with us; it’s fun guessing what all the Latin names mean, but we didn’t learn as much as we could have.
