Welcome to Creta!
Apr 2nd, 2007 by Oana
We are currently in Chania on the island of Crete, the largest Greek island and home of Knossos Palace and the minotaur’s labyrinth. We found a nice homey room at Pension Lena, a small house in the old town with a shared kitchen and a nice rooftop terrace, where we met a German couple with whom we drank some Cretan red wine and some retsina last night. Ian tried the local firewater called raki, and we are off to find some thyme honey which is the other local specialty. Maybe we’ll also satisfy our seafood cravings with cheap calamari!
The plan is to stay at Lena’s one more night and then catch the bus to Iraklio where the Knossos Palace is, tomorrow. Then we’ll take the morning catamaran to Santorini where we’ll be spending Easter with my dad’s cousin.
Were you in Santorini when the cruise ship sank?
We were indeed! We watched the news the night before and the Greek media said the ship was going to be just fine … but it sank at 6 am the next day! There were a couple of people on my plane yesterday who had been on the ship … they didn’t get to take any of their luggage off the ship and it was crazy, they said.
