Finding a GP
Jul 18th, 2006 by Oana
Having free and quick* access to health care is something we seem to take for granted, living in Canada. So I’ve been somewhat worried** about what kind of health insurance coverage we’ll have for the next year in Edinburgh. The cheapest way seems to be for me to opt back in to the AMS/GSS Health and Dental Plan, which provides unlimited travel insurance while on exchange. I can then add Ian as a dependent. This will work for any trips we take outside the UK, and we will still need to register with an NHS GP in Edinburgh. The Lothian NHS Board has an awesome website that lists all the GPs in our postal code - how cool is that? Apparently registering with a GP is relatively easy, but finding a dentist is much harder. Hopefully we can go for a year without cleanings or other dental work!
* yes, that’s debatable.
** I worry a lot.
